Basketball Training Equipment We Use – The Complete List

  1. Dr. Dish CT Deluxe Shooting Machine – game changer for clients and training businesses.
  2. Skillz Non Slip Floor Markers – They still slip a bit, but these are a great tool for teaching footwork.
  3. Skills Agility Ladder- We love them for warm-up on the sidelines before sessions.
  4. Dman – Good product, but handle with care, we have broken a few.
  5. Dumbbell Sets – I am a fan of the quality and pricing of whatever Costco is selling.
  6. Ankle Disk – Use it for deadlifts without weights and prehab ankles, acl, and increase performance.
  7. Bosu Ball – Love it to make bodywieght training more difficult.
  8. Weight Bench-  we like the durability, foldability and comfort of this bench.
  9. Pool Noodles – we love using them to simulate battle and anxiety during dribble and drive drills.
  10. Wilson Evolution – rough production during Covid, but still our number one choice when available.
  11. Molten FIBA Ball- a must have if you are training International players or those with ambition to play internationally.  l
  12. Heavy Trainer Ball – we like the Spalding for this to really increase “dents in the floor.”
  13. Big Ball Trainer – we keep an old big ball because we like the pebbly grain all worn off increasing focus on finger pad control .
  14. Vertech – we use this machine to measure vertical jump.  It does require some storage space and you need to schedule testing regularly to inspire the players. If you don’t schedule it, it will become the equivalent of the Soloflex coat hanger.
  15. Jump rope –  we use some weighted handles Nike ropes that are currently not sold.  Would love recommendations for other favorites!
  16. Hamstring stretcher –  Hang it visibly to encourage use.  Same with Jump rope.
  17. Whiteboards- We have three mega boards.  Very helpful for shot efficiency tracking, teaching, and emphasizing principles and upcoming event promotion. We had
  18. Markers- We like the Amazon Basics brand.  Saves $.  Hide them from the kids and reduce “graffitti” and dried out markers.  Or don’t and have some laughs at the artwork that will appear on your boards.
  19. Fridge – we have one, have not successfully monetized beverages sales or anything.
  20. Photo Spot – We have a banner that we use, but I have seen better.  I am going to develop some ideas with my new rep Heather at Incentive Solutions.
  21. Nets- we strongly prefer the longer lasting Ultra Sporting Goods heavy duty nets.   Breaking out the ladder to replace nets is not my favorite job.  I would estimate these nets last three times as long as the norm.
  22. Bands – We have a large assortment and all have stood up well to wear until one snapped in my face last week. Would have made a great blooper video.
  23. Pull up Bar – don’t get the doorframe one.  It stinks.  Find some studs to screw in a heavy duty model
  24. Wilson Ball Rack – it does need to have the screws tightened off
  25. Bag Ball- for balls not ready to throw out, but not in daily use.  Perfect for camp balls.  We use a car rack heavy duty bag.
  26. Shelving – we love the wire frame and shelves from Home Depot for our storage closet.  Thanks to my daughter for installing as let’s just say my basketball iq exceeds my mechanical iq.
  27. Cleaning Supplies
    1. Mop
    2. Towels
  28. Weight Setup from GymGarage
    1. Floor mats- I bought one thing, but would recommend horse barn mats from Tractor Supply …..
    2. Yoga mats – get the larger ones for big bodies.
    3. Stationary bike –  Reasonably priced, sturdy, squeaky wheels often so make sure you get some silicon spray to keep the flywheel lubed.
    4. Roku Soundbar  and Tv setup-
      1. For speakers we have some powered jbls and a small mixing board that our iphone, projector, or laptop can plug into.  We also use a JBL waterproof speaker to be more mobile in training or going to tournaments.  And lastly we use a Roku soundbar attached to a TV.   We need flexibility and this haphazard purchasing process does deliver it.
      2. TV- I recommend an Apple enabled 50- 65 inch so you can shoot video of shooting form etc. on your phone and play back on the TV.   TV placement is pretty important so you don’t replace TVs due to wild passes etc.  We are going to mount it in our closet on a bracket that can swing out to face out when closet door opens.
    5. Stability ball We use this https://www.amazon.com/Exercise-Ball-Yoga-Ball-Fitness/dp/B010MVAJZ2/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2X10BHU7V94HT&keywords=urban+fitness+ball&qid=1671650156&sprefix=urban+fitness+ball+%2Caps%2C129&sr=8-5 and it gets the job done at the right price.  I have used this Titan oversized ball and love it if you want something at the higher end to help athletes build a stronger core.    https://www.amazon.com/Titan-Fitness-Exercise-Stability-Pilates/dp/B01DLECL9E/ref=sr_1_5?crid=E9SQ9R87ZOW7&keywords=stability+ball+titan&qid=1671650093&sprefix=stability+ball+titan%2Caps%2C171&sr=8-5
    6. Adjustable dumbbells – I have the Weider adjustable ones, but I think they stick on adjustment more than the more expensive Bowflex ones.
    7. Olympic bar – the budget range on these are all over the map, but this value range model has been great.
    8. Squat rack – we are not huge fans of young people working the squat rack, but we do love the pullup bar, the benchpress safety bars and also the overall construction of this unit for the price.
    9. Plates
    10. Light weights
    11. Chalkboard paint – good for closet doors… we liked rustoleum.
  29. Weight Vest https://amzn.to/3vrVdNb
  30. Ice Packs – We have an ice machine and 1 gallon ziplock bags that are effective but messy if players don’t dispose of immediately (could be a problem with wood floors)  We use these at team tournaments and camps off site, and we like the price, fact they don’t need to be refrigerated, and also the larger than normal size offered.  https://www.amazon.com/Instant-Cold-Pack-Disposable-Inflammation/dp/B0979WBSWY/ref=sr_1_8?crid=38YX85BHL9AYX&keywords=best+disposable+ice+packs+bulk+for+athletes&qid=1671649115&sprefix=best+disposable+ice+packs+bulk+for+athletes%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-8
  31. First Aid Kits https://www.amazon.com/Be-Smart-Get-Prepared-Standards/dp/B00CYBXLA4/ref=zg_bs_3422431_sccl_6/140-8271789-9804229?psc=1 Get a complete and portable kit like this… then save money buying most commonly used items… Bandaids, gauze, and anti bacterial ointment, spray in buld to replace the kit originais.
  32. Plyo boxes – we bought the complete set from Dick’s Sporting Goods own brand. .  Quality was good except for the rubber matting on top… which is pretty important.  Know you may need to replace that if you purchase them.  Price was nicely discounted from big name brands.  If I were to buy new plyo boxes, I would lean toward the soft boxes to reduce shin injuries.   We haven’t seen any accidents in our gym, but we have seen many badly bruised and some broken tibia from less attentive teens.   https://www.amazon.com/REP-Soft-Plyo-Box-20x18x16/dp/B07GVQTGGN/ref=sr_1_13?crid=3M09G7Q4J986U&keywords=soft%2Bcore%2Bplyometric%2Bbox&qid=1671648239&sprefix=soft%2Bcore%2Bplyometric%2Bbox%2Caps%2C130&sr=8-13&th=1
